The Road to the Thanksgiving Table

Potato Market Update

Onion Market Update 111821The demand for russet potatoes, the week leading up to Thanksgiving, is incredible. Supplies seem to be adequate in all areas except the Northwest. Pricing on all sizes is starting to inch up on all sizes with healthy demand.

Red potatoes are available from various growers across the country. As stated in previous updates, transportation continues to be an issue for the various shipping regions; this is expected to be an issue well into the holiday season.

Similar to the russet potato market, yellow potatoes are seeing tremendous movement over the last two weeks. Pricing continues to inch upward as the demand remains steady.

White potato supply and demand continue to center around the Northeast and Southeast regions. Pricing is stable.

Fingerling potatoes are available in all shipping areas. This variety continues to be a very promotable item. Contact your RPE sales representative for all your potato needs.

Onion Market Update

Potato Market Update 111821Onion demand and pricing remain strong as we head into the week of Thanksgiving. The jumbo-sized onion market remains tight due to the overall smaller size profiles from growers in Idaho and the Columbia Basin. Medium and pre-pack-sized onions are in plenty of supply.

Growers are busy with retail orders for the Thanksgiving push. Pack time is limited this week in addition to a challenging truck market in all major growing regions.
