% of Households Extremely Concerned

Inflation concern drops to the lowest we’ve seen to date this month with 64% of consumers claiming they are highly concerned with inflation and consumer prices.

Potato Market Update

Yellow Potatoes QuarteredRusset potato demand appears to be steady; pricing is also very steady. All major shipping areas feel comfortable with remaining inventories that will last until the new crop arrives in late July to early August.

Growers in North Dakota will have ample supplies of red potatoes into July. Special promotional pricing is available. Contact your RPE sales representative for more details.

New crop white potatoes are available in the Southeast and California. Demand continues to be limited in those areas. Pricing remains unchanged.

Growers in Florida are winding down their supplies of yellow potatoes. California growers are getting underway this week with some above-average pricing. Storage crop yellow potatoes are available but in a minimal way in North Dakota, Idaho, and Canada. Overall pricing remains strong in all areas and will remain strong for the next 6-8 weeks.

Supplies of new crop fingerling potatoes are becoming available in California but at an extremely high cost. Pricing will continue to be strong until early to mid-June when more shipping areas begin to bring the new crop to market. 

Onion Market Update

Chopped Yellow OnionsCalifornia is the primary growing region currently, and they are seeing tremendous demand for all sizes and colors. Yellows are very tight, with prices reflecting. Reds and whites are also limited due to tight supplies in California.

The Columbia Basin has had a great start to the growing season, and a new crop of winter onions will be available in June.
