Growers in Wisconsin are working hard to complete their harvest. Overall, demand in the russet potato market is a bit light, but that is typical this time of year. Pricing on larger-sized russet potatoes has been moving upwards. The market is anticipating increased movement in the coming weeks. 

Weather continues to be an issue for grower’s harvests across the country. Growers in Idaho are bringing new crop red potatoes to the market.

The yellow potato market remains steady. The market may see fluctuations with the anticipation of shortages in the Red River Valley. For right now, demand and pricing remain steady. 

Demand and white potato supply remain primarily in the Northeast. Pricing remains stable.

Every major shipping region has quality fingerling potatoes. Pricing remains steady.

Merchandising update

Yellow potatoes are the buy of the month. Good supplies of yellow potatoes area available around the country and the quality is great. 

Five-pound bags will move the best volume and secondary displays will drive even more sales and margin. These creamy potatoes continue to be one of the best growth items in the potato category.

Onion market

The onion market has been steady with good availability on all sizes and colors. New crop onions are available from growers in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wisconsin, Michigan, Colorado and Utah.

Weather in the Pacific Northwest brought a lot of moisture and an early freeze, affecting some of the onion crop. Once growers complete harvest, we will be able to evaluate the extent of the damage.
