Potato Market Update

Russet potato demand is very steady and mostly unchanged. Supplies are adequate in all areas, with the biggest surplus remaining in Colorado. New crop and storage crop supplies may overlap in that state. Pricing remains steady with a slight uptick with the larger sizes.

Supplies of storage crop yellow potatoes are winding down in Idaho. New crop is starting to be available from growers in North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Arizona and California. Quality remains very nice even with the high temperatures in the west.

New crop white potatoes are available in the east along with long white potatoes in California. Pricing and demand remain very steady.

New crop fingerling potatoes are available in a very limited capacity. Pricing remains above normal due to the limited availability. 

Onion Market Update

As many of you know, the Pacific Northwest is currently experiencing record heat this week, which is expected to last through the Fourth of July. With storage crop onions in the ground, there is some concern about the extreme heat; however, it is too early to know if the heat will have any impacts on harvest.

New crop onions from California are in good supply in all three colors. The market remains steady on pricing for all colors and sizes. New Mexico is also shipping new crop onions in all three colors.

New crop overwinter yellow onions and Walla Walla Sweet onions are now available in the Pacific Northwest.

Freight remains tight with higher than normal prices in all growing regions.
