Potato Market Update

Potatoes UpdateRusset potato harvest is underway in practically all shipping areas, excluding Colorado and Maine, which will be underway within the next couple of weeks. Russet potato supplies are available in all shipping areas and all sizes. Growers are reporting good to excellent yields; this and the additional acres are causing downward pressure on the market. The market is expected to stabilize once harvest has been completed and everyone knows their supplies.

All yellow potato shipping areas are up and running, just like the russet potato market; excessive shipping puts downward pressure on the market. There are a lot of shipping areas that are not able to store their crops due to lack of storage.

White potatoes are currently available in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, Pennsylvania, and New Brunswick, Canada. Pricing remains steady, with most of the crop remaining near the shipping region.

New crop fingerling potatoes are available but in a limited way. Demand continues to be strong for the available product.

Onion Market Update

Onions UpdateThe Columbia Basin is up and going with new crop of onions. They are seeing excellent demand for all three colors. New Mexico has finished, and California growers are winding down their season. Demand overall has been very good the past few weeks as the season transitions north.

Overall, the size profile is larger, with mediums currently being the tighter item in the marketplace.
