Potato Market Update

Potato Update

All russet potato shipping regions are extremely busy with Thanksgiving business. Pricing continues to crumble with the extreme pressure from Idaho, where inventories are near-record high. Along with Idaho, growers in Colorado and Wisconsin also have larger than the typical crop. The industry hopes that grocery retailers will continue to promote russet potatoes even after the holidays. All areas appear to have a great crop in storage, with very few reported issues.

Our Florida growing partners have completed planting with their winter crops. These new crop potatoes are expected to hit the market in mid-February.

All yellow potato shipping areas are shipping at near total capacity. Pricing is steady. No shortages are being reported in any area.

There is nothing new in the white potato category. With the northeast as the main growing region of white potatoes, most of that product is shipping to the Northeast and the Southeast.

Fingerling potatoes are available in both Colorado and Idaho. Pricing is steady with very few changes.

Onion Market Update

Onion UpdateThe onion market is experiencing excellent demand in all colors and sizes. Jumbo reds and jumbo yellow onions have bumped up in pricing, and the larger yellow sizes in Idaho.

Overall quality has been excellent, and Columbia Basin and Idaho growers are having a good storage crop season.

Growers also have product available in New York and Wisconsin.
