Potato Market Update

 

 

Russet potato supplies look to be backing up in several growing regions. This is happening in several regions resulting in downward pressure on various sizes. Every major growing region is or is close to shipping their new crop russet potatoes. Every growing region appears to have had a good growing season with the exception of the northeast.

Supply exceeds demand for red potatoes in the Midwest. Quality read potatoes are ready for orders.

Yellow potatoes are available in all shipping areas at a very reasonable price. Now is the time to promote your yellow potatoes.

Limited amounts of white potato supplies are available. Prices remain steady.

Fingerling potatoes are available throughout all shipping areas, pricing remains steady and this item is also very promotable.

Onion Market Update

With the USDA Farmers to Families program starting again, demand for consumers and medium-sized onions have been excellent in the Columbia Basin. Yellow, red and white onions are in good supply with overall solid quality. The current challenge in the marketplace is the tight transportation market and higher than normal truck rates.

Idaho growers have completed their early onions supply and are now shipping storage crop onions. Onions white, yellow and red are in good supply.
